The mysterious music from Gustav Holst’s The Planets is complemented by beautiful HD images from NASA. You’ll be mesmerized by the sights from deep space and the ethereal sounds of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Gustav Holst based his most-recognized composition on his own fascination with astrological and supernatural symbols. Incorporating Roman mythology and symbolism into our solar system, Holst relates mankind to the infinite world beyond.
Premiering in 1920, The Planets was composed before Pluto was discovered in 1930. Other composers penned a Pluto movement throughout the decades, but after its planetary status was removed in 2006, Holst’s original work became, once again, the complete work for our solar system.
